The
Maha Mrityunjaya mantra literally means “the great death-conquering mantra”. This mantra is chanted in praise of Lord
Shiva and ais also know as the Tryambakam mantra, referring to His three
eyes. The mantra, quoted in the Rig
Veda, is believed to have the power to alleviate illnesses and bewtow long life
and good health. During time of
distress, chanting this mantra is said to provide great comfort, both
physically and mentally. As one chants
this Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra while praying to Lord Shiva, one also seeks
liberation from the bondage of life and death.
